Buying New House Phones?

My parents are looking to buy a set of new house phones. The ones we've bought in the past have had a tendency to break or break down relatively easily (i.e. the caller I.D. screen becomes unreadable, the battery life shortens, the sound quality decreases.), so we're wondering what quality brand names or quality stores we can trust. Any ideas?
